More socks with heels!

Where I live, it is ridiculously cold most of the year and I don't expect it to start warming up for another three months yet. So, for people like me, who want to stay bundled up a little longer and won't be strutting around in spring fashions for awhile...back to the heels and socks topic! "Dress everyday like you're going to get murdered in those clothes"- Tracy Jordon, 30 Rock. Wisdom to live by from a hilarious t.v. show. Yes, I'm somewhat kidding, but I love finding such quirky little gems of perspective. Life is what you make it, notice the details and take the time to be in the moment and celebrate the little things. Use your special-occasion dishes for breakfast, wear your favorite expensive jewelry while you run errands.
Although I've always done this, I became more conscious of the mindset from watching the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's. Among Holly Golightly's many eccentricities, one thing that really interested me was the scene of her drinking milk from a wine glass. When the movie ended, I immediately ran out to the thrift store and found a variety of beautiful and unique glasses (0.75 each!) to do the same. We were low on our supply of dishes in my house at the time anyway. It's the sort of thing I've always done- living on the cheap, but enjoying every moment of what I have.
Now about that picture...I like being able to look down at my feet and enjoy what I see. Pairing socks with heels is a daring new trend, and I'm still not sure what I think of it. The success of the style is completely dependent on the choice of sock and heel combo, and there is an overwhelming selection of different socks and shoes these days! It can easily go completely wrong. Never the less, I cautiously tried it out last week, with some crimson ballet flats (not heels) and a pair of white knee-high socks that had a cream colored criss cross pattern. I put the outfit together on a whim and figured I was going to look silly, but the end result was surprisingly appealing to the eye and my husband even liked it (shocking!).
Enjoy life- whether by boldly wearing an unexpected pair of socks with your nice shoes, or as subtle as using a fancy glass to drink milk. Every moment is your moment to own it.
